Taranaki experiences unique climate and weather patterns by being close to mountain ranges and having land that protrudes into the Tasman Sea.

Due to its location, Taranaki is normally one of the first areas to encounter weather systems in New Zealand.
Taranaki receives good rainfall coverage but also high sunshine hours and moderate temperatures throughout the year with temperatures ranging from around 20 to 30 degrees in summer to 5 to
10 degrees in winter.
Taranaki currently holds the New Zealand record for the most amount of sunshine hours in one month.
